Handling Lawn/Yard Waste

 

What is yard waste?

Grass clippings, brush, leaves, and other yard clippings which can be composted.

What are proper containers & how many?

Plastic or metal CANS, not to exceed 50 lbs.  The cans MUST BE COVERED.  Each container must have a TAG.  Tags can be purchased at City Hall for $2.65 each.  Yard waste will be picked up the same day as your regular garbage, from spring until fall.

Compost Site

You are encouraged to make use of the City compost site for the purpose of disposing of lawn waste.  The site is located at 1261 225th Street.  If you continue on Port Neal Road one mile south of the high school, you will cross back over the interstate and there will be a gravel road to the right.  The site is right there.  There is a red gate and a sign with the hours of operation posted.  The site is open on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the spring, summer and fall months.  All loads will be inspected by the attendant on duty.  There is no charge for loads containing yard waste only. 

There are charges associated with dumping of trash at the compost site.  Please see the prices below.  You MUST get your trash tickets for compost site use at City Hall.  This site is for Sergeant Bluff residents only.

 

Reminder:  There is NO open burning of yard waste allowed within the city limits of Sergeant Bluff.
